A Father’s Promise: Sobriety, Strength and the Power of Resilience | Allan Kehler

We recently launched a new logo for our clothing line Born Resilient and my wife, Tanya, captured this image of me and my son, Brody.

It hit me hard because Brody will never truly know the impact he had on me.

Just days after I finally put the bottle down, I felt completely broken. Then Tanya called to tell me she was pregnant, and it changed everything. That moment lit a fire in me, and I vowed that my son would always have a sober dad. Not a perfect one, but a dad who fought to the be the best version of himself.

Over the next few months, I learned that sobriety wasn’t just about putting down the bottle. It was about learning how to face the pain I had spent years trying to escape.

When we created the Unbreakable logo, we wanted to share an important message: ‘unbreakable’ doesn’t mean you never fall apart. Rather, it means refusing to stay in pieces.

For years, I thought strength meant hiding my struggles and pretending I had everything under control. Today, I know that real strength is having the courage to face yourself, ask for help and keep dreaming BIG.

My journey through addiction, recovery and mental illness has shaped the work I do today. As a keynote speaker I help organizations start meaningful conversations about mental health, resilience and the power of human connection.

“What’s stronger than a broken man who has the courage to rebuild himself? It’s time to redefine what it means to be strong.”
